I'm 25. I have produced/DP'd/co-directed or co-written 4 feature length movies, and a few shorts, and I did some FX stuff for a Troma movie. I am politically active and may be a socialist but I don't like to pigeonhole myself. It would be cool to someday work in some sort of public office, but would be cooler to make movies about it

Last night was the first of what will hopefully be an annual UAA Film Festival. Apparently there is a film club that has started sometime since I graduated, and they were organized enough to put the festival together. There were a bunch of shorts, The Man Club, a short feature length movie made by a few high school kids that was actually pretty good, and the played our movie Beekeeping.
Most of the crowd was already gone by the time our movie started, but it seemed like the people that stayed around really enjoyed the movie. We sold a bunch of copies of the DVD, so I know at least those people liked the movie. We are in the process of setting up at least one more screening in the not too distant future. Hopefully we will have new DVD's for all the movies by then, and we can go out and try to do some promotion.

The Beekeeping DVD is basically done now. I need to make a few minor adjustments and it will be ready to go. It has 2 commentaries, behind the scenes, a deleted scene, a bunch of alternate takes, a trailer for our Election documentary and a couple of other little featurette type things, it may even have an easter egg or two if you can find them. And now that I know more about the DVD authoring software, I am pretty stoked to work on more Special Editions. So in the next couple of months we should have them for our first movie, Checked Out, our documentary Election 2004 and even one for a few video scavenger hunts that we did a couple summers ago.
I went with John Whitlock to Election Central on tuesday night and we filmed a little bit more for the short documentary type thing we are putting together. It will most likely end up on the SE DVD for Election 2004. A lot of the footage we have is awesome, so hopefully the finished product will be also. We already had some very limited press on the first night we filmed ( http://www.adn.com/news/politics/elections/2006/recent/story/8385967p-8279992c.html ) scroll down to 9:33pm, I don't actually think that I said the quote that was attributed to me though.

For the past 7 or so hours I have been sitting in front of my other computer working on the "Special Edition" DVD for a movie I produced called Beekeeping. It is pretty much all coming together, and I think by monday night at the latest the disc will be finished and we can start making copies to give to the cast and crew and maybe sell a few. Then we will start working on new DVD's for the last couple of movies we have done, and maybe in the process get some stuff posted somewhere on the internet and throw some links on here.
Hopefully there will be more stuff going on that I can post on here, but for now I am just working on the DVD's and a couple other little video things that aren't very interesting.

So it has now been over 5 months since I claimed I would update this thing more regularly than I did before. But I guess once every five months is more than once every two years. In the last five months not too much has really changed. We are still trying to figure out what to do next. The finishing touches are still being put on Beekeeping and at the same time the features are being prepared to put together a special edition DVD. We are also going to be putting together some DVD's for the last two movies, Checked Out and Election 2004: The Movie Tony vs. Lisa (aka Tony vs Lisa or the election movie). One of them will feature the first few minutes of an aborted sequel attempt. I won't tell which one yet, but it was filmed in October of 2006 if that helps.
There are plenty of options on the table for the next project. Another documentary, another feature length narrative movie, a TV series, who knows what it will be. Maybe I can convince John Whitlock to star in a series of youtube videos, and he can be the next lonelygirl15.

So it has been two years since I made this account, and I completely forgot it existed until about five minutes ago. Since I last posted we finished Checked Out, screened it a few times around town (including once on the local UPN station, google "Bryant Mainord" and profanity for more info on that), made a comedy documentary about the Alaska US Senate election called Election 2004: Tony vs. Lisa, screened it a couple times (and had a member of Senator Lisa Murkowski's staff threaten the Chancellor of UAA with taking away their money because of the movie), worked on a zombie movie that never really went anywhere (yet), worked on some FX for the new Troma movie Poultrygeist, and made another college comedy called Beekeeping.
Now we are sort of trying to figure out what to do next. The finishing touches are being put on Beekeeping and we might send it out to some festivals and whatnot. We have talked about a couple different documentary ideas, I have been working on a script for a Tromatic short about Mormons, and have been talking with another guy about co-writing a script for a bigfoot type movie set in Alaska.
I will try to update this thing more regularly now that I know it is here.

Welcome to the new revised Paradise Vendors blog. This blog used to be about the making of Checked Out, until we made a blog exclusively about Checked Out and this one was abandoned for a little more than a year now. I sort of revamped the website, so I figured that I might as well make a blog too. I am currently working a little bit on the real website that I wll get up sometime soon hopefully. It will be a lot better than the angelfire version that is up right now. I am also trying to find someone to design a new logo for PV. I have some ideas in my head and just need to find someone who can draw the style that I want, something sort of clerks cartoonish. As soon as I get that I will plug it into the website and it willl be up on the internet soon there after. I am also going to have a message board up pretty soon, so this will be pretty much just like the old Checked Out site, only for PV related stuff. Not that too many people will go here, but we have some projects in development and in various stages of production so there should be plenty to update about coming up soon.
